Customisable free-standing wardrobes from Wardrobe Warehouse

Not every bedroom comes with built-in storage, and not every renovation budget stretches to creating it. A free-standing wardrobe from Wardrobe Warehouse gives you the quality and finish of a custom-built wardrobe without requiring a dedicated alcove or recess. It stands independently, looks like it belongs, and can be taken with you if you move.

Unlike the flat-packed, generic options available from furniture retailers, every free-standing wardrobe we produce is custom-made to your exact dimensions, from 500mm right up to 6 metres wide. That means it can run the full length of a wall, sit neatly in a corner, or fill an awkward space that no off-the-shelf unit would ever fit. The internal configuration is entirely yours to design, with hanging zones, shelving, drawers, and accessories all available. Whether you need a permanent solution or something you can relocate down the track, our free-standing wardrobes are built to last, and designed to look like they were always part of the room.

Everything is manufactured at our East Tamaki factory using NZ-made 18mm and 25mm MDF Melamine, with a minimum depth of 550mm to ensure clothes hang properly without being cramped. Free-standing wardrobes start from around $1,500, and every order includes a free measure and 3D design, no cost, no obligation.

Can I work with Wardrobe Warehouse during a new build or renovation?

Absolutely — we love working with new builds and renovations. We're an approved supplier to a number of Auckland's leading builders, including Sentinel Homes, GJ Gardner Homes, Precision Homes, Evolution Builders, and Byrne Homes. We recommend getting in touch early in the build process so we can design your wardrobes around your plans and timeframes.

Are your wardrobes custom-made or off-the-shelf?

Every wardrobe we produce is custom-designed and made to fit your exact space. We don't sell generic, off-the-shelf systems. Our team designs each wardrobe to your specific dimensions, storage needs, lifestyle, and style preferences — so it looks and functions exactly as you need.

What types of wardrobes do you offer?

We offer a comprehensive range of wardrobe solutions:

  • Walk-in wardrobes — luxury, spacious designs for dressing rooms
  • Reach-in wardrobes — built to fit your available space
  • Flatpack wardrobes — made to your specifications, cost-effective
  • Free-standing wardrobes — no built-in cavity required
  • Linen cupboards — organised linen and household storage
  • Garage storage — shelving and storage for your garage
  • Soho Sliding Doors — our range of custom sliding wardrobe doors

What materials are your wardrobes made from?

Our wardrobes are manufactured from 18mm and 25mm Melamine board — a sustainably sourced, NZ-made MDF substrate laminated with durable quality melamine sheets. We use Hettich soft-close drawer systems, chrome steel hanger rails, and PVC-edged visible edges for a clean, finished result. A wide range of colour and woodgrain finish options is available.

Can I add accessories like drawers, shoe shelves, or lighting?

Yes — your wardrobe can be customised with a full range of accessories including soft-close drawers, shoe shelves, pull-out pants racks, belt and tie holders, laundry hampers, and base kickboards. Ask our team about the available options during your design consultation.

Do you supply and install sliding wardrobe doors?

Yes. Our Soho Sliding Door range offers stylish, high-quality sliding wardrobe doors. We can install them as part of a new wardrobe system, or add sliding doors to an existing wardrobe opening. Visit our showroom to see the options available, or explore our Soho Sliding Doors range.

How long does wardrobe installation take?

Most wardrobe installations are completed within a single day. The exact time depends on the size and complexity of your wardrobe. Our installation team works efficiently and tidily, and will leave your space clean and ready to use.

How long does it take from order to installation?

Lead times depend on the product type, colour choice, and time of year. As a general guide, standard white wardrobes are typically ready within 2–4 weeks from the date of order and deposit. Custom colour systems generally take 4–6 weeks. We'll give you a clear estimated timeline at the time of your quote.

Do you remove or dispose of my old wardrobe?

Our standard installation service does not include the removal or disposal of existing shelving, doors, or fittings. We recommend arranging this prior to installation day. If you need assistance with this, please discuss it with our team at the time of your consultation and we can advise on options.

What do I need to do to prepare for installation day?

To ensure a smooth installation day, please make sure the wardrobe area is cleared — any existing clothing, shelving, or fixtures removed, and the space is accessible for our team. Ideally, wardrobes are installed after walls are painted and carpet or flooring is laid. Our team will take care of everything else.

Do your wardrobes come with a warranty?

Yes. We stand behind the quality of everything we manufacture and install. Our wardrobes are built to last many years with normal use. Full warranty details are available from our team at the time of your quote. We've been manufacturing and installing wardrobes across Auckland since 1997 — our track record speaks for itself.
